Tissue - Animal Tissues (Epithelial, Connective, Muscular, Nervous)

Grade 7ICSE

Review the key concepts, formulae, and examples before starting your quiz.

🔑Concepts

Animal Tissues are classified into four main types based on their structure and function: Epithelial, Connective, Muscular, and Nervous tissues.

Epithelial Tissue: Forms the protective covering of the body and lines internal organs. Types include Squamous (flat cells), Cuboidal (cube-like), Columnar (pillar-like), and Ciliated (with hair-like ciliacilia).

Connective Tissue: Supports, binds, and packs different organs. It includes: FluidFluid connectiveconnective tissuetissue (Blood and Lymph), SkeletalSkeletal tissuetissue (Bone and Cartilage), and ConnectiveConnective tissuetissue properproper (Ligaments, Tendons, Areolar, and Adipose).

Blood: A fluid connective tissue consisting of plasma and cells like RBCsRBCs (Erythrocytes), WBCsWBCs (Leukocytes), and Platelets. It is responsible for transporting O2O_2, CO2CO_2, and nutrients.

Muscular Tissue: Responsible for movement. It consists of three types: StriatedStriated (voluntary, attached to bones), NonstriatedNon-striated (involuntary, found in tubular organs), and CardiacCardiac (involuntary, found in the heart).

Nervous Tissue: Specialized for communication. The basic unit is the NeuronNeuron, which consists of a cell body (CytonCyton), DendritesDendrites (receive signals), and an AxonAxon (transmits signals).

💡Examples

Problem 1:

Identify the type of connective tissue that joins a bone to another bone.

Solution:

LigamentLigament

Explanation:

Ligaments are strong, elastic connective tissues that connect BoneBoneBone \leftrightarrow Bone, whereas Tendons connect MuscleBoneMuscle \leftrightarrow Bone.

Problem 2:

Which tissue is responsible for the movement of food through the alimentary canal?

Solution:

NonstriatedNon-striated or SmoothSmooth MuscularMuscular TissueTissue

Explanation:

These muscles are involuntary and undergo rhythmic contractions called peristalsis to move substances through tubular organs.

Problem 3:

Where is the Ciliated Columnar Epithelium found in the human body and what is its role?

Solution:

Found in the RespiratoryRespiratory TractTract and FallopianFallopian tubestubes.

Explanation:

The hair-like ciliacilia move in a rhythmic manner to push mucus or particles in a specific direction.
