Review the key concepts, formulae, and examples before starting your quiz.

🔑Concepts

The Indian currency system is based on Rupees () and Paise (pp). Imagine 11 Rupee as a complete whole and Paise as 100100 small parts that fit into it. The symbol is always placed before the number, while pp is written after.

The basic conversion factor is 1 Rupee=100 Paise1 \text{ Rupee} = 100 \text{ Paise}. This relationship is the foundation for all money-related calculations in Grade 4 math.

Money is often written in decimal form where a dot (..) separates the Rupees from the Paise. For example, in 25.50₹ 25.50, the digits to the left of the dot (2525) are Rupees and the two digits to the right (5050) are Paise. You can visualize the dot as a wall separating the bigger units from the smaller ones.

To convert Rupees into Paise, we multiply the amount by 100100. Visually, if the amount is in decimals, you move the decimal point two places to the right and remove the symbol. Example: 7.00₹ 7.00 becomes 700 p700 \text{ p}.

To convert Paise into Rupees, we divide the amount by 100100. A quick visual trick is to count two digits from the right side of the paise number and insert a decimal point. For example, 450 p450 \text{ p} becomes 4.50₹ 4.50.

The 'Two-Digit Rule' is essential for writing paise. Since 100100 paise make a rupee, the paise part must always occupy two decimal places. If you have 55 paise, it must be written as 0.05₹ 0.05 (with a placeholder zero) to show it is less than 1010 paise.

When converting an amount that has both rupees and paise into total paise, you convert the rupees first and then add the remaining paise. For example, 2₹ 2 and 5050 paise is (2×100)+50=250 p(2 \times 100) + 50 = 250 \text{ p}.

📐Formulae

1 Rupee=100 Paise1 \text{ Rupee} = 100 \text{ Paise}

Amount in Paise=Amount in Rupees×100\text{Amount in Paise} = \text{Amount in Rupees} \times 100

Amount in Rupees=Amount in Paise100\text{Amount in Rupees} = \frac{\text{Amount in Paise}}{100}

Total Paise=(Rupees×100)+Paise\text{Total Paise} = (\text{Rupees} \times 100) + \text{Paise}

💡Examples

Problem 1:

Convert 56.25₹ 56.25 into paise.

Solution:

  1. Use the conversion formula: Paise=Rupees×100\text{Paise} = \text{Rupees} \times 100.
  2. Multiply: 56.25×100=562556.25 \times 100 = 5625.
  3. The answer is 5625 p5625 \text{ p}.

Explanation:

To convert from the larger unit (Rupees) to the smaller unit (Paise), we multiply by 100100. In decimals, this simply shifts the decimal point two places to the right, effectively removing it.

Problem 2:

Convert 805805 paise into Rupees using the decimal point.

Solution:

  1. Use the conversion formula: Rupees=Paise÷100\text{Rupees} = \text{Paise} \div 100.
  2. Divide: 805÷100=8.05805 \div 100 = 8.05.
  3. Add the symbol: 8.05₹ 8.05.

Explanation:

To convert the smaller unit to the larger unit, we divide by 100100. By placing the decimal point two digits from the right, we separate the 88 Rupees from the 0505 Paise.
