Review the key concepts, formulae, and examples before starting your quiz.

🔑Concepts

Indian currency is measured in two units: Rupees and Paise. The symbol for Rupee is and the symbol for Paise is pp. Visually, the symbol consists of the Devanagari letter 'Ra' with a horizontal stripe across the top part.

The fundamental relationship between the two units is that 11 Rupee is equal to 100100 Paise (1=100p₹ 1 = 100p). You can visualize this as 100100 small 1p1p coins filling up a jar to equal the value of a single 1₹ 1 coin.

Commonly used coins in India include 1,2,5,₹ 1, ₹ 2, ₹ 5, and 10₹ 10. These are circular metal discs of varying sizes and colors. For instance, the 10₹ 10 coin is distinct with its bimetallic design, featuring a gold-colored center and a silver-colored outer ring.

Currency notes come in denominations such as 10,20,50,100,200,₹ 10, ₹ 20, ₹ 50, ₹ 100, ₹ 200, and 500₹ 500. Each note is rectangular and has a unique color and size to help identify it; for example, the 50₹ 50 note is fluorescent blue, while the 100₹ 100 note is lavender.

When writing money in figures, a dot (.) is used to separate Rupees from Paise. For example, in 25.75₹ 25.75, the number to the left of the dot (2525) represents Rupees, and the two digits to the right (7575) represent Paise. This is read as 'Twenty-five rupees and seventy-five paise'.

To convert Rupees into Paise, we multiply the amount by 100100. Visually, this is the same as moving the decimal point two places to the right or simply removing the dot. For example, 9=900p₹ 9 = 900p.

To find the total value of a group of different notes and coins, we add their values together. If you see a picture of one 20₹ 20 note and two 5₹ 5 coins, you calculate the total as 20+5+5=3020 + 5 + 5 = ₹ 30.

📐Formulae

1=100p₹ 1 = 100p

Amount in Paise=Amount in Rupees×100\text{Amount in Paise} = \text{Amount in Rupees} \times 100

Total Money=Rupees+Paise100\text{Total Money} = \text{Rupees} + \frac{\text{Paise}}{100}

💡Examples

Problem 1:

Convert 7.50₹ 7.50 into Paise.

Solution:

Step 1: Identify the number of Rupees and Paise. Here, we have 77 Rupees and 5050 Paise. Step 2: Convert Rupees to Paise: 7×100=700p7 \times 100 = 700p. Step 3: Add the remaining Paise: 700p+50p=750p700p + 50p = 750p. Therefore, 7.50=750p₹ 7.50 = 750p.

Explanation:

To convert a rupee amount with paise into total paise, multiply the rupee part by 100100 and add it to the paise part.

Problem 2:

Rahul has two 50₹ 50 notes, one 20₹ 20 note, and three 2₹ 2 coins. How much money does he have in total?

Solution:

Step 1: Calculate the value of the 50₹ 50 notes: 2×50=1002 \times 50 = ₹ 100. Step 2: Calculate the value of the 20₹ 20 note: 1×20=201 \times 20 = ₹ 20. Step 3: Calculate the value of the 2₹ 2 coins: 3×2=63 \times 2 = ₹ 6. Step 4: Add all the values together: 100+20+6=126100 + 20 + 6 = ₹ 126. Rahul has 126₹ 126 in total.

Explanation:

To find the total, multiply the count of each denomination by its value and then sum all the results.
